The Trumpet Sounds - Richard Trumpet!!

He is no stranger to the Entertainment Industry in Trinidad and Tobago and his increase popularity came after his collaboration with Tizzy (Antiguan Songstress), after that song "Wuk meh" too many females wanted to "wuk" him.... He is the sexy voice of 96.1 and Guilty Pleasures and can be heard every Sunday from 6pm - 9pm. The Trumpet soundsssssssssssss and boy oh boy was it loud!!!! I hear you Trumpy!!

**Runs back to introduction** - He was recently nominated for the Best Soca Re-Mix Collaboration for that same song "Wuk meh"

Entertainment Macco: Who is Richard Trumpet?
Richard Trumpet: “A very private ordinary individual that believes in live and let live, love and be loved. A lover of music and hater of injustice. Yes I know hate is a very strong word.”

Entertainment Macco: What is your sign?
Richard Trumpet: “Libra (The bess sign)”

Entertainment Macco: What is your favourite Movie?
Richard Trumpet: “Shottas (Favourite line:- Take de wah and leff de wah?)”

Entertainment Macco: What is your favourite dish? Can you cook it?
Richard Trumpet: “I eat almost anything you can’t drink but if I must say a dish I love Chicken Alfredo although my ultimate favourite thing to eat is banana fritters. I have never tried making Chicken Alfredo but I make the best banana fritters ever.”
Entertainment Macco:
All that talk yuh talking.. I hope u can cook…can you and I not talking about Cornbeef and Rice eh! lol
Richard Trumpet: My mom taught me to cook from a very tender age because she said “I doh wah no woman cutting style on my son”. Actually it’s something about me that only a few people know, I am a really good cook but I am even better at baking not to blow my own horn pardon the pun.”
Entertainment Macco:
Haha..blow…horn..TRUMPET!! **dead**

Entertainment Macco: What is your all time favourite song? I mean one that awaken memories, share one memory with me Richard.
Richard Trumpet: “My favourite song of all time is Journey to the Past by Aaliyah it really reminds me of a place I used to be, a place that I know I will get to once again. It reminds me of childhood memories and family life and how important they are, those are the most important things to me and I can’t wait for that day when I am back there again.”

Entertainment Macco: I heard that you are from the Laventille area and I know that a lot of negative stereotypes have been established when living in that area, how do you cope?
Richard Trumpet: “Actually, sometimes it upsets me a lot. There was an instance when I applied for a job and was denied because of where I live. I can even recall when I worked in a CD store and the proprietor’s mom was there one day and she asked another employee to check the trash before I threw it out one evening because as she put it “yuh know how them behind the bridge people is”, insinuating that I had put CDs in the garbage bag to steal them.
Entertainment Macco: Damn I can only imagine how you felt! That sad!!

Entertainment Macco: Go ahead..continue venting...what else is there?
Richard Trumpet: I dislike when people assume that once you are from Loveuntil (as I like to call it) you are somehow involved in some sort of criminal activity..some how you are different from any other law abiding citizen cause whenever you are asked where you from and you reply Loveuntil you get a gasp, a sigh or a “oh hoe”. I have lived Picton Road, Loveuntil all my life and I am very proud to say that. I am not saying there are not criminal elements in Loveuntil just like any other place in T&T but I just don’t think it should be a Peter pay for Paul and Paul pay for all scenario cause we need to understand and consider the hard working, honest, law abiding citizens that reside in Laventille and other so called crime hot spots too.

Entertainment Macco: One more thing you hate about the stereotypes before we move on and I continue to Macco?
Richard Trumpet: What I also hate is when “they” do stuff like block the road to carry out utility works without even making a PSA before hand because the “dogs” don’t need to be informed. After all it isn’t a prestige area so if the road is blocked we the bandits, criminals and dogs could just walk to our destinations. Ent? "

Entertainment Macco: **Breathes out** Glad you got that off your chest huh?

Entertainment Macco: Hear nah you really used to sing with the Asylum band..well before it was Asylum, why did you leave the band? How long has it been?
Richard Trumpet: “I left the band back in 2003 to pursue DJing and radio because I became very despondent about the music industry and all the bs and because I honestly thought that I could have done more than just being a frontline/back up singer.”

Entertainment Macco: On a softer side, the Macco heard sometime ago that your mother passed away when you were young (R.I.P), how hard was it for you growing up?
Richard Trumpet: “Wow! You had to go there? My mom was my strength, my life and my everything. I love her so much and the hardest part was not being able to share my triumphs and disappointments with her. My heart aches every time something happens and I think what would mummy do or say if she was here.”

Entertainment Macco: How many siblings do you have? Who took care of you all after your mothers’ death?
Richard Trumpet: "Three sisters and two brothers by birth and three more sisters and three more brothers by love. My eldest sister became my mother when mummy passed then I acquired a couple moms well, four in total but the sad thing is three of them passed away in quick succession and at one point I felt like I was cursed until I realized that they were just sent to me on loan and God had to have them back as soon as possible because they were required in heaven more than they were needed on earth so I understood."
Entertainment Macco: I am sure they were glad to be on loan to you.

Entertainment Macco: What is your relationship like with you father?
Richard Trumpet: “As much as I love my father we don’t have a great relationship. I honestly wish it was better but I love him a lot.”

Entertainment Macco: How long have you been employed at 96.1 wefm?
Richard Trumpet: “Four and a half years.”

Entertainment Macco: Trumpy (I could call you that on the macco blog right?) Does being a successful announcer/Dj affect you relationship wise?
Richard Trumpet: “Yes because you are never really sure if you are loved for who you are or what you are.”

Entertainment Macco: Are you happy with where you are in life at present? What more do you think you can do?
Richard Trumpet: “I am happy but I think I can take some more time for me and enjoy life a little more because almost all my time is consumed with work or something work related.”

Entertainment Macco: As a macco I have heard a lot of talk about you getting into the music industry just because it is the trend is that true? A lot of dj’s/announcers have turned songbirds recently, have you noticed? lol
Richard Trumpet: “Lmao I have noticed but for me as far as I can remember I have always had a love affair with music, so much so, that I could lock myself away for days on end with music as my companion so me getting into music wasn’t following the fad cause music is my life. I was singing before I started announcing so it was a natural progression or regression dependant on how you look at it.”
Entertainment Macco: Love affair yuh say? Who else or what else have you had love affairs with eh eh eh?

Entertainment Macco: What made you decide to announce and sing?
Richard Trumpet: “The singing part was natural because I always liked it… announcing came back at Costaatt when the Communications Lecturer Ms Marina Maxwell would tell me almost everyday “Richard you have a lovely voice you should do something with it”. On January 2nd 2003 she left a voice mail on my phone saying “Richard it is a new year it’s time to do something with your voice” and so I did. There is also another reason but that is to close to my heart to tell you… lol but I will share it with you one day!”
Entertainment Macco:
Well yes! You supposed to tell the macco everything now!

Entertainment Macco: If there was one thing you could do in this life, what would it be?
Richard Trumpet: Become a politician (I know yuh like huh?)
Entertainment Macco:
**Gasps** No comment!

Entertainment Macco: One place you would like to visit in the near future and why?
Richard Trumpet: “Sun City South Africa simply because I think it is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I saw it once on TV when the Ms Universe Pageant was held there and I fell in love.”

Entertainment Macco: Many men refuse to admit when they are in touch with their emotions….are you or are you ashamed to cry or talk out?
Richard Trumpet: “Ask my sister Rowen she would tell you if I cry lol! I am not ashamed to cry or talk out I have only recently learnt how to hold back my tears (since Shaggy sang Bad Man Don’t Cry)”
Entertainment Macco: You Study Shaggy and that doh cry thing..lol Badmen cry boi! lol

Entertainment Macco: Aye Trumpy (I gone back calling you that again) that sexy “guilty pleasures” voice, is it yours or put on re: technologically assisted?
Richard Trumpet: “Buh you eh easy! It’s my real voice, I just speak softer and turn up the volume on the mic, no autotune lol.”
Entertainment Macco: I was really gonna ask if it was autotune eh..men getting dissed for that these days eh!

Entertainment Macco: Do women usually throw themselves at you? How do you respond to something like that?
Richard Trumpet: “No they don’t … I don’t do to bad though but I always try to discern if that said woman who is “throwing herself” would have given me a second glance or double take if I was Trumpet the plumber.”

Entertainment Macco: What is the craziest thing a woman has ever done to get your attention?
Richard Trumpet: “Believe it or not but stand outside my house at 2 am like a mannequin, unannounced”.
Entertainment Macco: **Dying** Stalkerrrrrrrr!

Entertainment Macco: Ok Really I cannot resist asking this question, during the carnival season people were convinced that you and Tizzy were in “thing” is that true?
Richard Trumpet: “We are just good friends that is it just friends.”

Entertainment Macco:
Biggest turn on in a woman?
Richard Trumpet: “Turn on? Yuh mean turn ons! Brains, sollageesss, legs and smile not necessarily in that order.”
Entertainment Macco:
Wait what are Sollageess? **checks Oxford Dictionary** - NO MEANING…. **Searches on google** - NO MEANING…. **Calls Trumpet** - He says….. "Girl that mean Breastssssssssssssssssssssss!!!”

Entertainment Macco: In your industry what is your biggest pet peeve…that one thing that does real stress you out and send your pressure level up?
Richard Trumpet: “I thought it was egos but that comes second to unfairness.”

Entertainment Macco: Do you have an irresistible temptation/guilty pleasure? Tell me what it is?
Richard Trumpet: “Pampering that is all I am going to say about this topic."

Entertainment Macco: What is your greatest joy?
Richard Trumpet: “My daughter Jada-Marie”
Entertainment Macco: Yuh who? Is daughter you said? How old is she?
Richard Trumpet: “A year and three months”

Entertainment Macco: What is your secret fear? (don’t be scared to share it with me..)
Richard Trumpet: “It’s weird but I always have thoughts and dreams of dying a very violent death.”
Entertainment Macco:
Rebuke that!!!!

Entertainment Macco: What is your best asset/sexiest feature?
Richard Trumpet: “My smile but I am tired of getting the bandy talk.”
Entertainment Macco: Ohhhh yeah I have seen that Bandy….. **winks**

Entertainment Macco: When looking for a mate do you rather someone in the industry or out of the industry & why?
Richard Trumpet: “Out and far far away from the entertainment industry cause one shouldn’t eat where they sh*#”

Entertainment Macco: Why do you think there are more successful men in our entertainment industry than women?
Richard Trumpet: “Because it’s a very sexist stereotypical industry.”

Entertainment Macco: I know there are real life maccos out there, how do you keep your personal life off the streets and separate from you business life?
Richard Trumpet:I am a very private person by nature and I don’t like too much questions by the way how much more questions you going to ask me?”
Entertainment Macco: Haha..why you asking me my business? Just sit there and answer the questions.

Entertainment Macco: What is your personal credo?
Richard Trumpet: “Once you believe you can achieve and give unto Caesar what is due to Caesar.”

Entertainment Macco: When you die, how would you like to be remembered?
Richard Trumpet: “As a great father, husband and someone that had the ability to effect change and a source of inspiration to anyone who is considered or consider themselves to be an underdog.”

The Bajan (yes she is from Barbados) songbird is Sexy, Trendy (she is a fashionista), her voice is distinctive and she has a promising future. "Aries."

Entertainment Macco: I heard that you are an adrenaline junkie, what is the most risky thing you have done thus far?
Tarah Holdipp: "This is hard because I did all kinds of risky things. As a girl growing up, I use to be the only girl amongst the boys climbing roof tops, trees, rolling down hills in cans but as an adult I would have done off-roading and dirk bike racing."

Entertainment Macco: What is it about the adrenaline rush girl Tarah?
Tarah Holdipp:
"Sometimes life can become a bit same ole, same ole and to get away from that normalcy, I might just need something to take it to another level to make me feel satisfied within. Once I get that rush, it makes me want to either try the same thing again or try something different."
Entertainment Macco:
Not me nah!! I am scared of getting hurt yes....so jetskying wasn't too bad for me...nothing more yes!

Entertainment Macco: Are you married/dating/involved/Engaged or want to be?
Tarah Holdipp:
"NONE OF THE ABOVE. I never wanted to be married and I certainly don’t need a relationship right now. I am very, very single and have been for 3 years. I am now in the process of taking my career to another level and it requires lots of my time, focus and energy and I don’t think it would be fair to someone to be dealing with that. So I prefer to wait until the time suits me."

"As long as the child is nurtured, supported and loved by both parents I honestly don’t see a problem with it."
Entertainment Macco:
I hear that!!!!

Entertainment Macco: As a single parent how difficult is it for you as a mom and entertainer?
Tarah Holdipp: "As a single parent and entertainer, time management has to be my greatest key factor for me. I am up at 5:30 preparing breakfast and lunch. They are at school by 7:30. Then it's work for me, then collecting them from school, preparing dinner and dealing with homework and projects. Not to mention extra curricular activities during the week and weekends. Then there is church and the beach on Sundays and the usual cleaning and washing and the list goes on. In between all of this, I am still dealing with entertainment."

Entertainment Macco: I am sure they appreciate what you do for them....wow sounds like a real hectic schedule...

Entertainment Macco: Do you agree with the statement “A woman is a woman’s worst enemy,” how are your relationship with females?

Entertainment Macco:
The person you admire the most; living or dead and why?
Tarah Holdipp:
"My mom of course. She has groomed me into the woman I am today. Strong, confident and self reliant and I am sure to pass those values that she has taught me to my children. She is just a beautiful soul and a tower of strength."

Entertainment Macco: One place you want to visit before you die. Why is that?
Tarah Holdipp:
"I would love to visit Switzerland. It seems to be such a peaceful, clean place with no crime and its beauty is so breathtaking."

Tarah Holdipp: "I am very well known in Barbados and for the times that I have performed I have always had great reception from the people."

Entertainment Macco:
How difficult is the industry in Barbados, I have heard so many times that it is much tougher and less rewarding than other industries in the Caribbean?
Tarah Holdipp:
"Yes it is a tough industry. Unfortunately I cannot speak for other territories to make that comparison but the thing is to be focused and market your product to the best of your ability to reach other markets."

Entertainment Macco: When you die, how do you want to be remembered Tarah?
Tarah Holdipp: "As I am."

Tigress a woman of the artform... a true Calypsonian

I wonder if you all would remember “Whoa Donkey”….. “We riding….we riding….whoa donkey…whoa whoa donkey….” I definitely remember my primary school Carnival jump up when the United Sisters (a phenomenal 4 woman group) visited my school and tore the place up!! I jumped and pranced like crazy. Tigress entered the entertainment industry in 1988 as a solo artiste a and later was a member of the group United Sisters. She continues to consistently make a name for herself. For Carnival 2k9 she wowed Trinidad and Tobago with her controversial Kaiso “Yuh Ent See Wajang Yet” and copped the second place title in the Calypso Monarch Finals. Leh we Macco…we going back to the basics….

Entertainment Macco: What is your sign?

Tigress: "LIBRA – October 11th year not important"

Entertainment Macco: What is your given name?
Tigress: "My mother apparently had a few favourites so she gave me all of them so here goes….Grace Joanne Allison Rowley"
Entertainment Macco: Haha that is a classic!!

Entertainment Macco: I heard you were a country girl; tell the maccos where in Trinidad you hail from?
Tigress: "Yes I am a country girl. Grew in St Mary’s Village in Moruga later moved to La Brea where I became an honorary La Brea-rian, then settled in Couva."

Entertainment Macco: So I hear you living in foreign now is that true? If that is true, how long have you been living outside of Trinidad and where?
Tigress: "Yes I live in the United States since 1997"
Entertainment Macco: Where lady?
Tigress: "I now live in the state of Florida…Orlando to be exact."

Entertainment Macco: Where did the name Tigress come from and who gave it to you?
Tigress: "The name “Tigress” not “Tigeress” not “Lady Tigress” as some people tend to say, came from me. I named myself as I was about to enter the calypso arena and while searching for a sobriquet I did not want to do the Lady or Singing, I wanted to be unique. I thought long and hard about a flower decided the only flower I will go with to describe me might have to be a cactus…my favourite animal is a Tiger.. So Tigress was born…"

Entertainment Macco: How long have you been in the business?
Tigress: "I entered the entertainment industry / calypso arena in 1988 took a sabbatical from 1997-2004 but I love to say 20years."

Entertainment Macco: What is your absolute favourite song?
Tigress:
"I have a few
David Rudder’s -
Chant of a Mad Man
Sugar Aloes - Time
Stevie Wonder - Ribbon in the sky
Crossroads which I sang in 2004
Gospel - Lamb of God"

Entertainment Macco: Do you choose what you are going to sing about?
Tigress: "Yes I do"
Entertainment Macco: How do you choose?

Tigress: "Current events, and being a true chantwell
A Mothers Lament 2005 - was what I was faced with as a mother of a teenaged son
Crossroads 2004 - are my views after living abroad and seeing and hearing what was being said about my beautiful serene twin island republic.
Accessory to the Fact 2006 - The flip side of A Mothers Lament in this I decided its not the youths to be blamed at all time we the parents as sometimes an accessory to the crime that our children commit."

Entertainment Macco: Do you have kids or grandkids?
Tigress:
"Again yes I am a mother of three sons/men
Kerron 32
Shawn 30
Darrion 25

Grandmother of 2
Kato 9
Kerrisa 5"

Entertainment Macco: What is your absolute favourite thing to do?
Tigress: "Go to church, relax to smooth jazz, play some good all fours and sew."
Entertainment Macco: Well i know who to check when I want a good game now!!

Entertainment Macco: When and how did you recognize your love for calypso?
Tigress: "I used to sing in a ball room band... (VIN Courtney) and there I felt really comfortable doing calypsoes."

Entertainment Macco: If you weren't singing what would you be doing?
Tigress: "
Managing my own business…I have always dreamt of having a home for battered women even had a name for it too “Sisters of the Order of Sorrows”

Entertainment Macco: What is the non Calypsonian Tigress like?
Tigress:
"You sure you want me to tell…You want to know who Joanne is let me see. Jovial, Outspoken, Spiritual, Bold, Independent, think that’s enough."

Entertainment Macco: Are you employed? If yes in what industry OR are you a full-time Calypsonian?
Tigress:
"I am employed with a pharmaceutical company here in Orlando FL
Nephron Pharmaceuticals."

Entertainment Macco: Religious or Spiritual?
Tigress:
"SPIRITUAL"

Entertainment Macco: I am not going to beat around the bush when I ask you, were you seriously “totting feelings” when you sang that song Yuh Ent See Wajang Yet?
Tigress: "YES – I love songs like that to bring out the Tiger within."

Entertainment Macco: So is it coincidental that your last name is Rowley and the person you were defending in the song last name is Rowley as well OR all yuh related?
Tigress: "Many years ago I met Dr Rowley as every season he would attend the calypso tent; we always referred to each other as “famalee.”
If we are related I do not know we never questioned it. I was not born in Tobago but my maternal grandfather was Edric Leonard Rowley."
Entertainment Macco: Lady you better find out if that is your "famalee" eh.

Entertainment Macco: As a female in the industry how hard has it been for you, I have heard so many stories about females being promiscuous and being approached my the male controllers of the industry to “put out.” Have you ever experienced that…..Ohhh and we still talking about the hardships eh!
Tigress:
“You want to make ah some commess at this junction don’t you?
I thank God everyday that I have never had any such encounters since entering this industry. I respect myself and I have in turn earned that respect of my fraternity brothers. The encounters I have had to date is trite, Issues I have seen and witnessed are there too many women in the tent, or you are just the token female act, as one tend to always say you should have a woman on the cast, forget it you they suspect you are earning more than them. The hardships the women that has gone before has blazed that trail that women in the art form now are looked up to instead of being scorned.”
Entertainment Macco: Me.........Commess? But what kinda allegation is this? I am just a Macco!!

Entertainment Macco: Reminisce for me….United Sisters (Tigress, Marvellous Marva, Singing Sandra and Lady B), one of the most memorable experience as a group if you can recall.
Tigress:
"The formation of the awesome foursome known to all as United Sisters I should let you know was an act of God; the formation of the group had a profound effect on each of our lives. We have had very good memories. I must say there were bad ones too as you have 4 grown women already set in their own ways coming together, I will not trade either of them for anything though, I love my sisters dearly.
One of our most memorable experiences will have to be
1. Whoa Donkey- Cruise Ship Complex
2. Ambataila Woman – Caribbean Song Festival Queens Hall"

Entertainment Macco: I know one of the sisters died; Lady B, how difficult was it for you to deal with such a loss?
Tigress: "That was a hard time for us all, as you may know Beulah died in New York, I saw her in the hospital the day before she passed, I was at work as I lived in New York at that time. As i got the call I just knew..... thank God I had my spiritual family - Faith Believers Spiritual Baptist Tabernacle and the ecclesiastic leader Bishop Primus,Plumline Spiritual Baptist Cell under the leadership of King Shepherd Davidson Callender, Michael Manswell and Something Positive of New York, while Calypso Rose, Marvellous Marva and I hosted a grand send off for her…in true best village style as only Lady B could have had in a Grand Memorial service which was held in the church where I worshipped at the time Faith Believers Tabernacle at 2265 Pitkin Ave, Brooklyn NY"

Entertainment Macco: How hard was it for you to sing Yuh Ent See Wajang Yet in a competition where most of the participants are usually “pro-Manning”?
Tigress: "The songs that were released early in Trinidad and Tobago had already spoken; that made it easy."

Entertainment Macco: Do you write all your material? If not have you ever attempted to do any stuff on your own?
Tigress: "
YES and NO
Yes I tell you what I want to sing what I want in each verse.
No I cannot put a melody to it; I will come up with a poem so I leave it to the pros."

Entertainment Macco: A poem? haha

Entertainment Macco: How do you feel when you hear the comment “Kaiso is dying”
Tigress:
"It makes any true defender of the art form sad to hear the term "Calypso is dying"

Entertainment Macco: If there was one thing you could do to save the art form, what would that be?
Tigress: "If I can I will find someway to keep the artform alive, I love to see when the art is recognised as the culture of Trinidad and Tobago not being referred to as island music. I always try to explain “what is calypso” wherever I go"

Entertainment Macco: Are you featured in many shows overseas? Are you well received?
Tigress: "Yes I am featured in many shows overseas and I am very well received
In 2007 I was the recipient of a Proclamation from the City of New York for my cultural contributions in the community. I travel as far as Oakland and California to do workshops on our music and our culture. At present I am the Vice President of the Orlando Carnival Association so I keep busy culturally not as a singer only."

Entertainment Macco: When you are not working, focusing on music/practicing, what do you find yourself doing?
Tigress: "Relaxing, sewing, spending time with my grand kids as I consider it a privilege to see my second generation or I love to serve at the church. I do a lot of things for myself so I am always occupied....you can always find me online looking for something or in the shout box of Wack Radio shooting the breeze."

Entertainment Macco: Do you have a get away place/spot…..tell me where!
Tigress: It’s a “GET AWAY SPOT” if its public knowledge it’s no longer a get away spot or place.... I am always elated whenever I am going to Los Angeles CA even New York now that I no longer live there, Orlando is pretty laid back."

Entertainment Macco: One place you would like to visit in the near future.

Tigress: "AFRICA"
Entertainment Macco: Why?
Tigress: "Roots and Culture!!!!"

Entertainment Macco: What is your personal credo?
Tigress:
"I will hold God to his promise, that he will never leave me nor forsake me."

Entertainment Macco: When you die, how do you want to be remembered?
Tigress: “As someone who created a self I was happy to live with”, as that is my aim in this life.
